I've been thinking more about this thread. I realized in my previous post, I only answered the question about my first name (Alice), not my middle name (Jade).
Pre-transition, my birth/masculine middle name was irrelevant: never used or said, more like a mere placeholder on paperwork. Deciding on a new middle name didn't really come up for me until I started filling out the court paperwork for the name change process. A significant reason why I selected Jade was because had I transitioned in my later teenage or early 20s, I probably would have picked Jade as my first name (as opposed to my middle name now). I also like how the substance jade is the same color (green) as my birth stone (emerald).
